Sacramento, PA (May 15, 2015) – The newly-formed Tri-Valley Youth Activities Fund (TVYAF) is excited to announce the awarding of over $18,000 in grant monies to local youth organizations. The grant money was raised by the 2nd Annual Hot Potato 5K Fun Run/Walk and Tater Tot Trot, which was held in June of 2014.

David Masser, President of the TVYAF Board of Directors commented, “On behalf of the TVYAF board members, we are thrilled that we are able to give back over $18,000 this year in support of youth activities to help our community’s most important asset, our children.”

The groups that have been awarded grants are as follows: Hegins Teener Baseball, Mahantongo Environmental Club, Tri-Valley Fast Break Boys Basketball, Tri-Valley FFA, Tri-Valley Football Parents Association, Tri-Valley Girls Softball Association, Tri-Valley High School Girls Soccer, Tri-Valley High School Marching Band, Tri-Valley Lady Dawgs Girls Basketball, Tri-Valley Little League, and Tri-Valley Volleyball.

As part of the grant request, all organizations were required to submit applications, identifying a special project or event that would support the organizational goals and youth participants. For example, the Tri-Valley FFA received grant approval to purchase organization jackets and assist with student travel expenses to a national conference. The Tri-Valley Little League was granted funds to purchase automated external defibrillators to meet county league requirements and provide additional safety for student participants.

“We hope that the financial support given will allow these groups and activities to flourish and achieve their mission and goals,” said Masser. “We are excited to support the development of our children’s education and skills in teamwork, leadership and citizenship to continuously improve and sustain our great community.”

The 3rd Annual Hot Potato 5k Fun Run/Walk and Tater Tot Trot will be held on Saturday, June 13. The children’s mile Tater Tot Trot will begin at 8:15am and the 5k will begin at 9:00am. Information on the event can be found at www.HotPotato5k.org. The moneys raised at this year’s event will again be administered by the TVYAF board to support youth activities.
