Penn's Own® Pennsylvania Dutch Cheddar Chowder


  • 4-6 Penn's Own® Dutch Golden Butter Potatoes, diced into 1" cubes (approximately 2 cups)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham
  • White sauce (1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup flour, 2 cups milk, 2 cups grated cheddar cheese)


Prepare Vegetables

  • Add water, potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, salt and pepper in a pot and bring to a boil
  • Let boil for 10-12 minutes

Prepare White Sauce

  • Melt butter in a pot and whisk in flour to make a roux
  • Gradually whisk in milk, heating until it is bubbly and thickened, stirring constantly
  • Remove from heat and add cheese, stirring until it is melted and thoroughly blended

Prepare Chowder

  • Add white sauce and diced ham to vegetable mixture, stir gently and heat through
